Seasonal Visitor Center Hours
As a reminder, the White Rock Visitor Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily through March 14th. Beginning on March 15th the WRVC will begin its expanded hours being open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. seven days per week.
The Los Alamos Visitor Center is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Tourism SeasonReport
While the Los Alamos Visitor Centers experienced a fantastic increase in tourism numbers from May, 2013 through September, 2013, we realized a rather dismal October and November. November is expected as we go back to off-season hours but October’s results were a direct impact of the government shutdown. During the week of Balloon Fiesta and the Valles Caldera Elk Festival our visitor numbers were down 90% and the entire month saw a final result of 50% less visitors than the same month in 2012. With the exception of 2011, right after the fire, this year saw the worst October in the past five years.
While the White Rock Visitor Center was experiencing low numbers during the shutdown, we were able to capture a large percentage of tourists and redirect them from their original Bandelier trip to the Bradbury Museum, Historical Museum, Fuller Lodge, our awesome walking tour and local businesses. Bradbury, Historical and Fuller Lodge saw a nice increase in numbers for October with the Bradbury Museum seeing one of their better Octobers in recent years. The bad news was the shutdown but the good news was still being able to capture a lot of visitors and keep them around for the day! This proves that our businesses, trails, museums, rich history and so many other attractions and activities are a real draw and are a serious focus point in our efforts to entice people to come visit us.
Bandelier Annual Passes for Sale
Don’t forget you can purchase your new Bandelier annual pass and the Interagency annual pass at the White Rock Visitor Center. We will have new stock on annual passes by mid- January. We will also be selling Bandelier weekly passes so if you have friends and/or family coming to town and Bandelier is on your list, come on by the White Rock Visitor Center and we’ll set you up for the week!
New MVB Staff on Board
We have a new person coming on board to the Los Alamos Meeting and Visitor Bureau staff. When you get a chance come by and welcome Melanie Pena who is moving from her administrative position with the Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation to the Meeting and Vistor Bureau department.
