The Los Alamos Creative District highlights arts, culture, and science in our downtown.   The district is a part of the statewide New Mexico Arts and Cultural Districts that began in 2007.  Los Alamos is the only “creative district” in the state. This is largely because science is an important focus area of the district. The development of the Los Alamos Creative District will serve as a catalyst for supporting and developing service, restaurant, retail, and hospitality businesses within the proposed district.

The district will expand on current events and programming (including expanding the former Next Big Idea Festival from one day to seven days), increase partnerships between cultural entities in Los Alamos, and increase the visibility of events and businesses in the district.

One of the new events that will take place in district is the “On Tap” series.  It begins at 5:30 p.m. on May 1 and will continue every Thursday evening. “On Tap” is collaboration between the Bradbury Science Museum, Fuller Lodge Art Center, Los Alamos Historical Society, and the Pajarito Environmental Education Center.  Each week one of the organizations will have a speaker give an informal 10-15 minute presentation followed by a group discussion.  A guest organization will host the talk and discussion on the 5th Thursday of each month.

In an effort to increase community gathering in the district, organizations in the district will stay open late on 2nd and 4th Fridays in June, July, and August (only 2nd in August) and the 1st Friday of each month beginning in August.  Take the opportunity to see the organizations during special hours and be guided through the district by local performers.

The creative district is organized by an advisory committee which reports to county council. Nicole Kliebert is the Creative District Curator, a position with the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation.  For additional information about the Los Alamos Creative District and its activities, please email Nicole Kliebert at nicole@losalamos.org.
