New Mexico MainStreet

Capital Outlay Grant

The Central Avenue Streetscape project has begun. Within this scope of work is a MainStreet Grant of $70,000 for newly positioned and painted light poles, fixtures, trash cans, additional cross walk, bike racks, brick and landscaping between 15th and 20th Street. The design will bring a more cohesive look to the existing light poles by painting them the same color and switching out the Victorian lamp heads to one that is fitting with the Manhattan Project era.

MainStreet Receives 2014 National Accreditation

Los Alamos MainStreet has been designated as an accredited National MainStreet Program for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards set by the National MainStreet Center®, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Each year, the National MainStreet Center announces accredited MainStreet® programs in recognition of their exemplary commitment to historic preservation and community revitalization.

“We congratulate this year’s nationally accredited MainStreet programs for their outstanding accomplishment in meeting the National MainStreet Center’s performance standards,” says Patrice Frey, President & CEO of the National MainStreet Center. “Accredited MainStreet programs create vibrant communities by using a comprehensive strategy to preserve their historic character and revitalize their commercial districts, which helps make these great places to work, live, and visit.”

Los Alamos MainStreet is proud to be one of three recipients in New Mexico to receive this national designation. There are a total of 27 New Mexico MainStreet communities in the state that were eligible.
